An Umbrella of Resources for
Your Midlife Reinvention
Menu

Welcome ladies to our website that caters to women entering, during and after midlife. Our vision is to unite and strengthen your voice through community and awareness.

My name is Susan Runnels, the founder of Your Second Season (YSS). I developed Your Second Season as a result of personal struggles to understand why I wasn’t feeling “right”  and to find purpose as my children left home when I turned 50.

I started to explore this transition (my second season) and found myself annoyed with the negative stereotype associated with “older women.” The lack of support and fragmented resources were also frustrating, and I found it very difficult to understand what was happening to me. I felt like a storm was brewing inside my body and I didn’t know what to do. The concept of  “you don’t know, what you don’t know” was the one thing that was very clear to me.  I went on a mission to seek answers and found many women felt like me: uncertain, isolated, and even invisible. The void that surrounds this community of women is glaringly apparent.

This void shows up in statistical information: The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported women aged 40-59 have the highest rate of depression of any age or gender in the U.S. The National Center for Health said that the suicide rate for middle-aged women, ages 45-64, increased by 63 percent since 1999.  Others studies have shown that women during midlife are ill-informed and unaware as words “menopause, “empty nester,” and “midlife” carry negative connotations of aging and decline.  As women, we need to redefine, reevaluate and understand this transition; which means coming together and talking about it.
